Michael earned his B.S. in Chemical Engineering and Chemistry from Calvin University. He is currently a second-year Ph.D. student in the Sievers lab working on a mechanistic analysis of the aqueous phase reforming of ethanol over bimetallic catalysts. He uses ultra-high vacuum infrared spectroscopy to identify key intermediates in the reaction pathway and track the reaction progress. Outside the lab, Michael enjoys video games, television, and playing ultimate frisbee.
