  • Kinetics of Surface Reactions during Aqueous Phase Reforming of Polyols

Research Summary

Jungseob So currently focuses on the surface chemistry during the conversion of sugars and polyols into lactic acid in condensed phase over the heterogeneous catalysts. Specifically, active sites of solid catalyst are identified using solid state NMR and IR spectroscopy and adsorbed surface species derived from the interaction of active sites on the catalysts with biomass-derived reactants and intermediates are directly observed ex-situ and in-situ IR spectroscopy and 13C NMR spectroscopy to correlate the adsorbed surface species with selectivity and yield over model catalysts in a flow bed reactor.
